Theres a WTC gag used in Comic Cup V ATM. That said , the toons on the forums here are usually pretty strong. While maybe a lot of people would publicly compain , i would wager that those same people gutted themselves laughing the first time they saw them.

And the Dead Babies in a Blender strip. I defy anyone to claim that wasnt funny and mean it , even if they do hate themselves for laughing at it.

YOu are correct in that the ending was a little crass , but i have friends in NYC , and got the constant "How are they , are they ok" thing for 48 hours , so i see the humour in it.

WTC jokes aren't offensive to all Americans. We've had a ton of jokes caused by such national tragedies as Challenger, plane crashes, serial killers, Reagan, etc. But in this case, some 6000 people were killed, and countless others were injured or narrowly escaped ... and that amounts to a lot of people who know someone who was directly affected. To my knowledge, my "Bacon Number" is 3 -- my wife works with someone whose (not-so-close) friend was on the plane that flew into the Pentagon. For a lot of people, this hits close to home. Too close, and it's nothing to do with nationality in particular.

That said, I am probably able to laugh at some pretty crude WTC stuff, but I hardly expect all of you to, and I've been treading pretty lightly in deference to others' possible sensitivities (some of my nasty ethnic jokes have wound up on the stripcreator cutting room floor for similar reasons -- I don't want to accidentally offend someone.)

Maybe I'll make some WTC comics one of these days. But the text might be ROT-13 :-)

Oh, and DX's strip was written after the first plane impact, before the second plane showed up and long before thousands of people died. It was a joke about how Gabe Billings was piloting the plane.

I figured that mine was fair game because it centered on the bullshit *I* was experiencing. The "they're all ground floor now" part was a little crude, but it's kinda like the Hawkeye Pierce reaction to the situation. It's an expression of incredulity. I don't expect everyone to get it. Personally, I'm offended by the massive amount of religious/flag-waving/bigoted email I've received to my work account. Rather than tell everyone off for what I see as an inappropriate way to express their grief and helplessness (polluting my inbox), I quietly delete.

My mom is pissed off because the beautiful little tree that sat so peacefully and zen-like outside her window is now choked with red, white, blue, and yellow ribbons (no doubt they've added purple, too).

No one can force everyone to suddenly be tolerant, but I can advise that adopting a small measure of tolerance when it comes to understanding people's different ways of processing this is just easier than telling everyone off.

I'm sure that kaufman could post several pages in dedication to the irony of LadyJ preaching tolerance.

Absoloutely. Everyone has their off days. I have them 6 days out of 7. And i know what lack of sleep does to a person.
