Funny this thread started such a long conversation. Cool. It's kinda funny that I've gotten more compliments on my hair in two weeks than in my entire life. Still trying to get home to see the look on my mother's face. Ahhh it will be quite entertaining.

I'm not a big fan of getting a piercing on myself though... I'm scared to death of needles. Hate 'em. icky icky. As for tatoos, I dunno. Maybe a small one that means something if something ever hits me where I think "wow.. that'd be cool". I just don't want to be 80 and have to explain to my friends in the home why I have a tatoo on my lower back that said "Tobor Was Here"

You know, tattoos are done with needles. They're usually grouped in 3's, 5's, and more, rapidly puncturing the skin thousands of times.

I saw something that really freaked me out the other day on the toob. Apparently the "new" thing is scarring yourself intentionally. A guy (in Dallas, no less) will shoot you at point blank range with your choice of bullet for the proper "exit scarring effect"
for $600 bucks.

What cracks me up is some poor misguided, "misunderstood", "socially ridiculed" Vanilla Ice wanna be pays this for a bullet wound at his shoulder. He's whining on and on about it's a reflection of his life's pain and I had to laugh at this poor guy. He's covered with Lynaard Skynaard-esque art and crying about his "horrid life"

I wanted to drive my ass to Dallas, find this moron, and let him roam around the 3rd ward after midnight for a bit..he could have several exit wounds for free, and see what a poser he is.

Anywho....I have a tat, I have a piercing, they mean something to me, no one else needs to understand it. End of story.

You have a tat and a piercing and don't need for anyone else to understand it. People who have intentional scars have scars and don't need for you to understand it.

I have lots of friends who have cuttings and brands. They were done under clean conditions and in a controlled environment. I don't foresee wanting to endure a cutting, but I would love to get a brand. I just don't know where I want it. I have the design in my mind, but I'm concerned that it might not be doable. When I am happy enough with my body, and have a place in mind for the brand, I'll discuss the feasibility with an artist that I trust who is willing to do it. I will be very picky about that individual.

There is some difference between having a tattoo, which is generally something you don't get unless you choose to, and having an intentional scar, which is going to mislead anyone unless you explain it to them.

And sure, I could see how getting a scar would be an artistic statement, just like I could see how cutting holes in your jeans could be an artistic statement, but this guy Jael saw on TV sounds to me like he's trying too hard.

I was going to get all the skin on my face removed to express my individuality. Does anyone know if that stings? I'm a wimp when it comes to pain.

It's not so much the mark I'm interested in. It's the threat of pain and a woman's ability to deliver it. Wether she uses a phone book, broom handle or branding iron is none of my say-so.

I may look into branding irons for the wife's xmas though. Imagine feeling the heat as she holds it an inch from your face. You, bound to the floor with chains, have no recourse but to be very still. She whispers her plans... pokes a few places up and down your body with her sharp fingers, trying to decide as she settles her rump down on to your..................................................................

The trying too hard thing is something that I agree with, in this case. That is a value judgement based on my own experiences and views. To him, with his perspective, it might be something based on something very personal and legitimate, for all I know.

And as for "artistic statements", again - that is an application of your views to someone else's actions and motivations. Personally, my next piercing is not going to be any kind of "artistic statement". It's going to be a new piece of jewelry to play with and pick crusties off of. :)
