And about art:
1. I'm more interested in improving the quality and diversity of the backgrounds than adding more characters at the moment. I'd like to retire some of the redundant or plain backgrounds and replace them with specific locations/sets that are a little more interesting or provocative. I think that would improve the diversity of comics more than more characters would.
2. I don't really want to add any more characters from other comic strips unless they're willing to stick them in the public domain or something along those lines. While I realize everyone likes the ones we have now, I'd personally be a happier and less troubled dude if I could get rid of them.
3. Stripcreator's traffic has been through the roof lately and I'm not in a hurry to add any more characters. When I add more art, bandwidth goes up -- forever. I have the unique webmaster issue that, if say the bandwidth gets out of control, I can't take characters offline without wrecking hundreds and hundreds of comics. I've been tossing around the idea of small subscriptions for more art for a couple of months now. I'm not sure if anything will come of that. If you have any thoughts on that, please let me know.
