That's what we need. Someone with cross-over appeal who isn't afraid to bash Bush. My only concern is he doesn't bash enough. But so far he's the bravest of the bunch.

By the way, Spankling, I want to thank you for keeping this thread up-to-date so consistently. I don't comment much on what you put here, but I always look forward to your updates.

As for Dean, I think that political bravery (that is, his willingness to take a potentially unpopular stance, simply because he feels it's right is the secret of his appeal). And that does for items that would be unpopular with both the right and the left.

His position on gun control, in particular, makes my wife uncomfortable. But I read it and thought, "That's a novel, reasonable approach." Which leads one to believe that he came to this conclusion because it makes sense, not because it tested will with focus groups.

Or he could have us all fooled. But right now, he seems to be the best of the bunch, if only because he is the most willing to say in very direct language what is wrong with Bush's policies.

I think this is why they don't let these people speak off the cuff too often. He must've realised the stupidity of what he'd said, which is why he added the disclaimer.
