Mysterious Cities of Gold. It was required after school tv in the 80s, for me at least. It was made as some sort of french-japanese collaborative animated effort, that and ulysses 31, and both were ridiculously badly dubbed into english, but are classics and fondly remembered none the less.

Ah! Glad to know someone else watched this show. Yes, it's one of the few French produced anime (just as "Transformers" is one of the few American produced animes). I remember the theme song. And Zia was the first animated girl I ever had a crush on (I was five or six at the time). I wish they'd release it on DVD, as they have with so many other 80's shows. I had it on VHS until a few years ago when the tapes went bad. *sigh* Did you watch it on Nickelodeon?

Id like it to be noted i now have the entire series 1, and Season 2 Part 1 (Volumes 1-3) on DVD. Alas, a good portion of the remainder of DVD's are beyond me until we start getting into the post-unicron stuff.

Ulysses was amazing, but Mysterious Cities of Gold bored me ever so slightly. Dunno why, i think it was the Frenchness of it.

I hated Cities of Gold. I hated that smug little twat Esteban. I hated the fact that they found a freaking flying golden condor in the jungle.

Ulysses, on the other hand, had a much cooler theme tune, a boss looking spaceship and a gun that was also a lightsabre.

PS - I know I photoshopped that panel, but there's no way I can draw. But I was heavily cut on lager at the time I made it.
