I believe I would answer the same as I would to the question, "What is the Capital of Wisconsin?". Who gives a shit? It was here, it rocked, and it will continue to rock. It will be back in full force, because music genre's rotate in popularity. I share the same thoughts on Punk as in do about the World, in a certain way. I don't need to know who made it, who destroyed it, or who will save it. I just need to know that its rocks, and that I should enjoy it while im still alive. And that's what I'll do, rather than flame message boards with topics like, "IM SO PUNKZ! AVRIL AND GOOD CHARLOTTE ARE TEH ROXXZOR!". I might not be a punk historian like Boorite and UnknownEric, but I know a lot, and enjoy it all.

Best quote in this thread. Matt Haynes from Sarah/Shinkansen Records once said that a record should be something you listen to once, enjoy the hell out of, and then chuck it out the window. While my overflowing record/CD collection runs in opposition to this thought, I've always found that an interesting idea because of what I believe it means: that a great song is, as Greil Marcus put it, a "moment." You don't have to know who sings it, what label they're on, what politics they espouse, who's fucking the bass player... you just need to know that it rocks.
