No, telling someone they should not make jokes is trying to censor them. Telling them that they offended you is not. Telling them that they may offend someone else is not. Telling someone not to say what they said is censoring them, period.

Yes. I agree, but that doesn't mesh with the previous statement. I don't mean to get pedantic, but censorship is censorship, and if you've got a problem with words you shouldn't give power to them.

Ah, see, bad taste, to me, is not Britney Spears and what not. That's just shit. Bad taste is saying or doing something that seems offensive at first, but after the offense gives way, the person affected looks at the material and says, "What a strange perspective! Maybe we're all being a bit ridiculous." Bad taste, to me, is something akin to truth. Bill Hicks was described as tasteless, especially when he did a bit about Tiffany and Debbie Gibson shutting their mall-pop whore mouths by munching each others' boxes.

As I said, I tend to crack jokes about the things that bother me the most. It helps me feel better about them, and if more people learned to do that instead of wallowing in fucking misery, maybe things would be better.

How intensely enriching this place is - no sarcasm intended. I have explored humor here at StripCreator in only a couple of vertical ways, one being the incredibly ho-hum "JDPLVY" series that makes The Grass Growing Channel on cable look exciting.

The times I have expanded into currrent events have triggered discussions that I find stimulating and diverse. In the end, for me though, it comes down to one thing...

Unless I have the power to enforce that dictum (or offer a credible threat of doing so), I still wouldn't call it censorship. Still, I appreciate the distinction you're trying to make.

Looks like we're at an impasse over the definition of "bad taste", then. To me, you seem to be describing the low-brow end of satire. I've seen plenty of humor that I personally would describe as being in "bad taste" which offers no insight or worthwhile perspective on anything. Usually, it isn't terribly funny because some nugget of insight is almost a necessary ingredient for humor.

I haven't heard it. Since it's about the lifestyles of the bitchin' famous though, It sounds far removed from jokes about tsunami victims.

I respect that, but there is a certain luxury in being able to do it. I'm not suggesting that you take that luxury for granted, but to me it feels a little too easy to sit making comics about someone else's plight while they're out there somewhere looking slow death in the eye.

But I realize I'm making some pretty arbitrary distinctions. Some of my comics would probably be pretty low from many peoples' points of view.

I resent being catagorized in that fashion. A troll, by definition is a non-participant, an interloper who disrupts the flow of a forum. I have worked very hard to find a groove, something trolls don't do. You have hurt my feelings. I will be sulking for the next twenty minutes or so.

I think I should reiterate that I am not JDPLVY. Look at the dates on my strips. Then look at the brief time that PLVY spent here getting punked by the group. I do what many people do, which is to use SC comix to entertain a group of my friends outside the SC universe.

As a doner, I have arrived at a certain level of "don't give a shit" where the opinion of other SC authors are concerned. and yet I pay attention, because there is stuff to learn.

I was attempting to compliment a diversity in the comments. Sorry about that if that constitutes trollism. As for the rest of it, I was just being Self-effacing, a trick that works for others as near as I can tell.

Since I'm obviously a moron, I guess that silence is probably golden and I should go back to listening for a while longer.

You seem miffed at the reaction you're getting to the comic. You knew that the title of the thread would get people to read it, and provoke a response...otherwise you would've made the title of the thread, "Read my new comic".

I'm not really offended by the comic itself, but I can certainly see how some others would be if they have family or friends dealing with the tragedy. I am extremely offended at the unfunniness of it though.
