Yes. There's nothing quite like that feeling of "we liked this," or "we hated this." To be honest, we who spontaneously emote at movies never thought much about "what reason." That's the point. We're not sitting there doing syllogisms.

Talking over the dialogue, or bringing a squawling brat in, or letting your phone ring-- these are capital crimes. Getting swept up in audience moments is just good old unironic fun. Loosen your butt cheeks a smidgen.

I never said I didn't get swept up in a movie, otherwise what would be the point in going? I want to enjoy a movie with my friends the way it was supposed to be enjoyed, and to be honest, if you're sitting on the other side of the cinema, I couldn't give a flying fuck if you're enjoying yourself or not. If I wanted to meet people and interact with them, I'd go to a bar and talk about the movie I've just seen.

Personally I don't see the difference between a squaling brat and an applauding twat.

Look, I enjoy movies differently than you. You like to go see it with your friends, I like to go see them alone so I can honestly and truly enjoy what I'm watching. Ever notice how when you go to see a movie with a group of friends you laugh at things you wouldn't laugh at if you were by yourself? Or how you don't laugh at things you do find funny because it would be considered a faux pas? That's what I hate about the common movie-going experience.

I hope you and your group enjoy the movies you see. I'll enjoy them my way, and we don't have to have any more of a big fat spat over this.
