I am a proponent of having the word "yous" or "youse" introduced to the English language. Most other languages that I have studied in my time at uni have both second person singular and second person plural pronouns, and English is lagging behind.

Give it fifty years, and it will probably end up being adopted through natural linguistic forces.

Is it ya'll or y'all? I once wrote "y'all" in a discussion and was told that was wrong. Of course, my first thought was how would anyone know how to properly punctuate it? It's not like it's a matter of proper grammar. Any dorks here know the answer?

Considering it is derived from "you all" it should definitely be y'all, since the apostrophe indicates that a piece has been removed. I also heard that when addressing a particularly large group of the people, the term used is "all y'all".

To the millions of us here at least in Texas, its "Ya'll" except those snooty dallasites who want to be all elitist and proper and crap...and Book Publishers...to them it's "Y'all", but they all yanks anyway...we expect that.

It was suggested by the person who said it is "ya'll" that it is really a contraction of "ya all" and the apostrophe replaces the second "a." I'm with you, though. I'm just telling you what somebody told me. This person also said that only a non-southerner would write "y'all." But maybe he was full of it.

I believe that "all y'all" is used for emphasis, much like "not nobody." For instance, a person who has been advised by his friends that maybe he should stop drinking paint thinner because he's had enough might say, "All y'all can kiss my ass."

As far as I know, most real southerners would say "ya'll." Sure "y'all" is more gramatically correct, but what do you expect from a bunch of inbred rednecks?

Oh well, at least we don't have that fucking crazy speach impediment that forces people to pronounce an "r" at the end of every other word, except for the words that actually end in "r," in which case the letter is ignored.
