I think I liked the simplicity of of Rabid's strips. You had a lot of unrelated elements (the twig joke, etc.) that confused me and slowed down the journey to the punchline. They were ultimately very good, just difficult for my feeble mind to comprehend on the first read. But I shouldn't need to read it a second time to get it, so....

On that note, I don't think anyone should have to justify why they voted a certain way. I think it's pretty much assumed that when someone votes for Mr.X's comic over Mr.Y's it is because they found it to be funnier. And Mr.Y saying he was robbed is a matter of opinion.
