If you've ever been around hyena you know how fast they can eat flesh of off someone who is still standing. Being smart isn't really a matter there (other than the wisdom "don't wander off in Africa" being useful).
But we can cut down the predator population in an area, and then license the correct amount of hunting which should maintain equilibrium, in that sense, yes, I think we're well equipped, and if we can take care of extra deer in North America, we can take care of run-away wheat crops if we had to.

Eventually, for medical reasons, GM science is going to be used in the human population, which I do think could be very dangerous for a number of issues. I'd rather have some dangerous consequences of GM pointed out with a crop of wheat that has to be destroyed rather than a nusery full of babies.
