I think this thread already exists somewhere in the General Discussion forum.

It was such a waste of everyone’s time and money that even the Tokyo stadium’s rape robots apologized– something they were programmed specifically never to do.

Nice of whoever made that to remove the SomethingAwful.Com tags, which is where at least 95% of those came from.

Actually a lot of these (like Don't Rape the Baby and Scary Stories), didn't have Something Awful tags. They were from one of the first Photoshop Phridays before the tags were put on.

Now a lot of the Richard Scarry ones HAVE been removed.

I just finished "Snow Crash", but I don't think that's the point of this thread.

I'm simultaneously rereading J.D. Salinger's "Franny and Zooey" and reading the Essential X-Factor Volume One collection, which goes a long way towards explaining my state of mind.

Stephenson is amusing, but that's about it. He has a way with words and an interesting imagination for setting, but his characters are a bit trite and 2D. In a novel, I prefer to get more depth from the characters than you can get in a movie -- even the 2.5 hour movies that are popular today. If you don't get that... well... wait for the movie!

I dunno.. "Hiro Protagonist" is a bit.. goofy, yeah, for a name, like he didn't lean too hard on sorting out a name for his "hero... protagonist..." but I found the characters to be very much a product of their environment and therefore, apt for that atmosphere.

And YT is a pretty interesting and yet somewhat harrowing snapshot of post-fucking-everything femininity.

I've been snatching up every Dean Koontz book I can find. Being the D&D dork that I am, I also have been collecting any Forgotten Realms books I come across. I don't buy hardbacks as a matter of course so new releases don't see my shelf, the exception being Robert Jordan's books because I never come across them in paperback until I've already bought the hardback.

I went on a Dean Koontz binge ten or fifteen years ago. In almost every one of his books, he comes up with one really fascinating idea that makes it a fun story to read. Like the one where this guy would be going about his daily life, then he'd look at some stranger and hear the word "lifeline" in his head and know that he had to save that person's life or they would die that day. At one point he had to follow a woman onto a passenger plane knowing that it was going to crash.

I've just bought a book called Gravity's Rainbow because it was on Time's 100 best novels ever list and I needed something to read. I haven't started this 700-page monstrosity yet, but if this thread is still around when I finish, I'll let y'all know.
