This happened today at my office, they brought in a ton of red helium balloons and one got away. For about 15 minutes 4 managers were standing around trying to figure out how to get it down. I asked them why they couldn't just wait a couple days, and they gave me some bs about it being an occupational safety issue, because if it floats down and someone slips on it they could get hurt. So one of them started throwing a pen at it. I told him that it wasn't a good idea, but nobody listenend. Now we've got a balloon on the ceiling and a desk that's been cordoned off under the pen until maintenance can get a ladder in on Monday to remove the pen (just in case it were to fall on someone's head and injure them).

Are you sure you don't live in the US? I'm moving to New Zealand for a year and had hoped your hemisphere was a little smarter than this!

They've done it again! Now there's a yellow balloon up there from some Aussie themed display they've set up with the green and gold. Apparently security have bought a massive ladder so they can take care of this stuff themselves instead of having to call someone in. They're getting it out of the storage room now.
