The inbox counter at the top left should only show you new messages now. Also, messages older than four months will probably start getting purged soon.

What are the chances of having it also say the total number of messages? I don't know about anyone else, but I don't always reply to messages straight away and I'll probably forget they're there.

It's no big deal, but if it's easy to set up it might be worth having a look at.

Minor suggested tweak - maybe when you have messages, make the text (or at least the unread message count) a slightly more high-contrast colour, like yellow or red, so it catches your attention more easily. Alternatively, to avoid stuffing up the colour scheme, a small and subtle animated .gif, such as a rotating bullet point or something, could be a good signal.

I found I only checked it because I read this thread, and found there were a couple of messages there.
