...and I figured I owed you guys enough to give you the first heads up.

I'm selling my original NES:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220098933752

And my original GameBoy:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220098936304

The GameBoy works perfectly, but I have very few games to go with it. The NES still works, but it's ornery sometimes and requires patience.

Who'd want a 1st gen gameboy? I'm guessing the retard who's made two threads about Runescape in a 24-hour period.

I bought my Gameboy in 1996. Granted, those weird colored ones had just come out and I was tempted by the clear ones, but none of them came with Tetris. That was the selling point.

My brother has a dumb habit of shelling out megabucks for the latest game system right when it comes out and then getting bored with it a year later (he finishes games the same day he buys them). The idiot keeps doing this even though he knows he'll just get bored and want the next one, but it's given me a great opportunity to raid his stash of consoles. I just wish the little bastard hadn't dropped some M80s on his N64 before I could steal it.

Where was I? Oh yeah, new consoles are overrated, nothing can beat the classics, and kaidenrocks is an infant who is one day going to look back on his posts here and pray no one ever links his moronic babbling back to him irl lest he be humiliated in front of his peers.

I have my old gameboy still. All grey and clunkity. I experienced the magic of Kirby's Dream World on that thing. Good times.

I collected classic consoles until I ran out of cash to pay for them. I love those old school games. They bring back good memories.

I remember some guy that was auctioning his old gaming stuff. I can't remember exactly what he had, but it was an insane amount. Like a few of every gaming system ever made and enough games to fill up a moving truck. I think it was like $70K.

i love t3h classic consoles. i have an atari 2600, nes, and snes. i got a sega genesis at a garage sale for $5 but it never worked. if i wait a couple years, my playstation 1 will probably be considered a classic

BigFrank105i like emulators, but i need to see if they make some serial port game controllers or something that are shaped like the original control pads. it's not as cool reminiscing with a keyboard

I just did some freelance work and have enough extra money from it that I've decided to get me one, with Scramble and Hyperchase... Sad, but I can't wait. It's taking the place of my Wii on the shelf, as the Wii is shite. Trufax.

i also bought the Turbographix 16 right when it came out. shelled out $200 in 1990. back then you could buy SO MUCH more drugs and alcohol with $200 than you could today, and that really made it quite a sacrifice...

a little while after that the Genesis totally crushed it in the market and it went away quietly.

It's probably not as big of an emotional thing for me. I was born in 87, so the first true video game I remember playing was Super Mario World when I was in like 1st grade. For some reason I remember having an NES, but of course I really wasn't able to play it all that much. Still, it's nice having 700 games at my disposal.

I bought a Gamecube pad to USB thingy the other day. Works a treat for emulators and that, especially the 64. I have a love for old 8 bit systems tho, as that was my era, although I started dismantling my collection a while back I still have a load of weird and wonderful machines in boxes. I stupidly sold my working nes for about a tenner at a car boot sale, but my pride and joy is still a mint condition ZX Spectrum in its box with all the manuals and that. Normally I keep every console that Ive bought but Ive just donated my Gamecube to the nephs on the pretence that I now have to buy myself a wii. The Wii virtual console thing looks interesting, I realise I could play all the games on me pc, but somehow its just feels right on a console again. My mate bought Streetfighter 2 for it and man it takes you right back.

Personally I've decided to hold on to my collection until the robots cause a nuclear war wiping out most modern technology, then Im going to sell them all as fogotten curios from the old civilisation and use the money to fund a monkey army to rise up against the robot overlords.

How do you get emulators to work? I've tried everything and nothing was successful. Though it was about 8 years ago that I was attempting to play a Super Mario World and Transformers game on an emulator, so maybe things have improved since then.

This is a good place to start

http://www.zophar.net/

you'll need roms for most however which I'll leave up to your leet detective skills or torrenting abilities.

If you want a quick fix nescafe is a great java based Nes emulator

http://www.daviddn.com/nescafe/

For most of the early consoles its fairly easy to find a reasonable emulator these days however. I recommend Zsnes for Snes, project 64 for N64, Gens for genesis. For later consoles its possible to find emulators, but the results aren't always brilliant, I did have a playstation emulator for a while, but you need the CPU rom for that aswell, and with games on CD they are obviously massive in comparison. Haven't seen a working DS emulator yet, but Ive not really looked for a while. There are a few others that emulate everything under the sun from early 70s calculators to Sega Master systems, but you usually need the CPU roms to get them working so I find its best to find a dedicated solution like the few mentioned above.

I also went through a bit of an arcade phase a while back, and mame was the poision of choice for that.

Damn I just revealed my true geek identity. Shoot me now or take a few forget-me-nots and pretend this never happened!

Its a different experience, admittedly a bit of a novelty that many regular gamers find hard to enjoy immediately and the graphics of the current batch of games are fairly simplistic , but Ive never ever seen a console attract as many non-gamers the way that does. Ive seen people who have no interest in games take up the remote and simply start playing, and save for the occasional exception on other consoles this rarely happens.

I for one think Nintendo went the right way rather than trying to compete on hardware, and the wii is fun no question about that. Seems their focus at the moment is on party games, although Zelda is as great as it always was.

Of the games Ive played on it so far here's a quick run down of hits and misses. I will say it works best on a big television mind.

Zelda - Brilliant

Wii Sports - Has its moments, Tennis is great four player, Boxing tires you out, Bowling is a little too simple but still fun.

Wii Play - Rather like 10 little demo's but you do get a free controller, The Tank game is good, and there's something for everyone really

Red Steel - A bit average, nothing to write home about

Call of Duty 3 - Ditto red steel, the control is however excellent, but the game feels rushed and not as polished as the 360 version (and no multiplayer)

Super Monkey Ball - Single player is as good as always and the wii remote feels right for that, Multiplayer games range from quite good to some really bad but there are 50 of them, so plenty of gameplay.

I watched some friends play that Wario Ware game, which looked fun but the music starts to gripe after a while.

On my friends ps2 the other day we were playing Guitar hero 2 which is aces. Im sure if the PS3 dropped in price Id be more tempted, as it is I can't really justify that sort of expense.

One thing that has disappointed me about the Wii however are the lack of Quality titles at the moment, and most of the games I am interested in have been put back again until November (Mario Galaxy, and Metroid 3 etc), Im still going to get one, if only to play a few of my old Cube games that I decided to not donate to the nephs, and the odd bout of zelda, but I could really do with seeing a decent football (soccer) game released for it although Im not holding out hope at the moment. That said Battalion Wars 2 is due soon, and I may check out Wing Island next week before making the plunge (stock willing)

If I had the dosh Id get a Wii as a complimentary system to a 360 (plus a Hi Def telly) but as I don't Im going for the cheapest option.

The 'Mii's' are great also.
