I've seen some forum posts that people have been able to subsequently edit, but I don't seem to have that functionality on my own posts. Am i missing something, or is that just another one of those weirdnesses that exists for some people and not others? Can I have post-edit functionality for my own posts, please? Thanks!

If those people are editing their own posts that means they're mods.  Only moderators can edit posts.
